9 Helpful Tips for A Better Mental Health
What is it that makes therapy so important
to those battling with mental illness?
Every year, millions of people experience
mental health disorders, yet only fraction receives treatment from mental
health therapists.
There are several reasons why people are
still having their second thoughts in seeking professional help, ‘therapy
doesn't work' or ‘sharing my problems with someone won't help'. This way of
thinking prevents people from enjoying the positive benefits that therapy could
bring.
The truth about therapy is that it really
works in treating mental illness. But we get it, therapy is not always accessible
to everyone nor an option for some people. So, we prepared a list of small and
simple mental health care strategies you can start doing immediately.
It’s not meant to be a substitute for
professional help, but it can be a useful addition or way to accelerate your
healing.
Write
your thoughts down on a journal
When you’re stuck on a negative thought or
something is bothering you, let it all out… on a paper. Journaling is a
therapeutic tool that serves as a safe way to vent your feelings. Writing down
your thoughts and feelings on a regular basis will help you know yourself
better and improve understanding of your condition.
Take
care of your body
Our body and mind are connected with each
other. When you are taking good care of your body, it means you are also
keeping your mind healthy. Eat nutritious foods, drink plenty of water,
exercise, get enough sleep and avoid alcohol and cigarettes.
Replace
negative thoughts with positive ones
Letting go of your negative thoughts and
starting to put more encouraging thoughts into your mind can make you see
things clearly. You might be surprised to see the solutions to your problems
that you may have never considered before.
Take
time to Laugh
It may not be the easiest thing to do but
laughing can help lower your heart rate and calm you down.
Make a list of the things that can make you
feel refreshed and happy. Watch a comedy movie or check out a cute baby and animal
videos online. A funny friend is a great help too!
Work
your strengths
Try to make time for doing the things that
you’re good at. If you’re good at painting, motivate yourself to go to the
nearest supply store, buy a canvass and start painting. Doing things you are
good at is an effective way to build your self-confidence.

is already part of our life. The best we can do is to manage it effectively so
it won't affect our lives. Understand how you stress and what type of
situations make you feel different than you do most of the time. Find healthy
ways to manage your stress and do stress-reducing activities that work best for
you.

exercises. It will help clear your mind, making it easier to see problems and
